Bliss my siamese

My boyfriend and I recently adopted a 1yr old Siamese cat. She's adorable as a button and likes to cuddle sometimes. Other times she wants to hide under the couch. And she doesn't like to play much. How cat I get her to be more open and loving? I want her to feel like part of the family. Also she was in an adoption cage for 2 wks and was saved from death row from the animal league here in my town. Any advice and training tips would be great.
