blood in urine

Question:
what could blood in the urine be caused from?
I just cleaned the cat box, forgot to put it back, sat down to visit this site and my 8 month old female peed next to me on the carpet and then meowed. So by using a paper towel I could see the red. Dont know how long its been going on,...Yes I'll call my vet, just wanted to hear from you!

I took Daphne to the Vet. She has crystals, luckily no bladder infection. Doctor said, take her off of the dry Canadae, and use a higher quality canned food. No more Friskies. He said I could give her the Vet perscribed dry food especially for that problem, and use a better canned food than I have been giving her. She is half Persian, and half Siamese. He wants to test her urine after she has been off of the dry food. I was suprised that the Vets dry food has Corn in it! I is $36.00 for 7 pounds of the dry. I guess I should look in to the ingredients of the food that is out there. Any suggestions?
