Do Siamese cats 'chitter'?

by Gillian
(Birmingham, UK)

I have 2 rescue kittens and one I think is part siamese. He is black/grey tabby stripes but has the shape and build of a siamese cat. He also 'chitters' all day long talking to us. He does not meow like a normal cat would. We have had cats for nearly 50 years and have never had one that 'talks' like he does.

Thanks for all your comments. Not only does he chitter but he's totally nuts!! He's black + grey striped and a real wuss. So laid back and oves both of us and is only quiet when he is asleep!!

they do indeed NEW

Yes Absoulutly!
Siamese are known for being very vocal, and one of there main traits is that they make a Chirping or chittering sound. Its quite funny as it seems the cat is stuck trying to meow but instead stutters over the first syllable. We have had siamese cats for many years and all of them do the same thing mostly when they are happy with us or watching something interesting out the window. It is possible that if your cat is mixed with a siamese that he too does this.
Other breeds known to do it are the Bengal and Oriental Shorthair

Cheers

Chitter
by: Anonymous

My little girl siamese is 5 years old now and she chitters when watching birds or deeply engrossed in something. Your pussycat must really be deeply interested in talking to you ! You are a lucky human...
