Elizabeth from Canada

I have a Seal-point male Siamese who is 18 years old.
I had a 15 year old female tabby who died 2 months ago from diabetes. These two were good buddies and always slept together. The problem is my Siamese, Louis, has been meowing at the top of his lungs ever since. And he meows whenever he's awake. Including at night which disturbs my sleep. Took him to the vet who diagnosed hyperthyroidism for which he's being treated. He was dehydrated too and was given intravenous fluids.
He sleeps a lot. Is he meowing because he misses his buddy. After 2 months? I didn't get any answers from the vet regarding this vocalization. I really don't want him to go, but I don't know what to do. I talk to him and hold him whenever I can. I see no improvement from the medicine except he's sleeping a heck of a lot.
Sorry for this long essay.
