my cat bit me

Hi i adopted a siamese, 5 years old a couple of months ago, he seemed depressed at first but was getting better. Today he was sleeping on my lap facing me he started miauing and when i moved him to get up he bit me in the arm really hard... He is a sweet heart but he bit me and now i'm kind of scared of this out of the blue behavior... any suggestions of what can it be and what can i do to prevent it?? thanks!!
