my new kitten

by Kittymama

I just brought my siamese kitten home yesterday. I'm a little concerned that he does not play like all of the kittens I've had in the past. I know he's extremely anxious about his new environment, he actually had diarrhea when the dogs come around him as well as having what I call a "bottle brush tail" with the hissing and spitting. He's not playful though even when the dogs are not around. He's very affectionate and wants to be held all the time. I'm hoping it's just a matter of him feeling comfortable with his environment. Does anyone have any ideas?

New Environments are scary !!!! NEW
by: angelina diantonio

Remember you have a scared baby who was taken from his Mother and siblings. Its like being thrown to the wolves. You need to cuddle and love that precious bundle of joy you were blessed with. Maybe you should keep the kitten and dogs separated by a baby gate until they get acquainted. You can buy a cheap gate at Walmart. That way the kitten can work his way up to the gate and will not be afraid of the dogs. Give everyone time to adjust and you will blend together as a family!!! Keep us posted and post some pictures!!!!

New Baby NEW

I think too your new baby is just unsure and feeling frightened of the dogs and new home. He will start feeling more at home and relax if given lots of love and affection. All kittens are different. We brought a new baby home last fall and he tried his best to scare the big cats with his bottle brush tail and arched back. The 2 big kitties where not real impressed. Our baby had a secret weapon--intestinal gas. He was like a little skunk. He could let it go at will. Your baby will take his place in the family and the dogs will learn that this little ball of spit and vineger means business and they best leave him alone. In time they may become the best of friends.

My sister got a kitten and we were all worried her dog might hurt it, as it turned out it was/is the dog that needs protection! He's a black lab and is terrified of the kitten-- with good reason. The kitten holds his own just fine. And he's blind in one eye yet. Things have a way of working out.

Just give him time and a place where he feels safe and sucure where he can go away from the dogs and hide. He'll start playing in his own time. Watch the diareha, many if not most, kittens have it but it can get dangerous if severe. It's usually from a change in food. Siamese are somewhat high strung, but they also demand respect from other pets and usually get it.

I wish you the best with your new kitten and enjoy him, they grow up so fast!

Congratulations on your new baby. You have to remember, she just left her Mama and has gone to a new environment, along with dogs being in the house. I am sure she is just nervous and will have to get used to the new home. Just hold her and love her and when she get adjusted, she WILL play. From any kitten I have ever had, they take a little time and then they are fine. Good luck with her.
