New puppy in the house

Kioko, our 5 year old siamese chocolate point has been lord of the house. We have a few gold fish in a tank, but other than that, he has always been the center of attention.

My son (22) is getting a puppy, a mini austrailian shepherd and I was wondering what the best way to make sure they were good friends.

I love Kioko, but my husband and son has not bonded with him because he basically follows me around. He keeps his distance and hides alot when they are around.

I was hoping that with the addition of the puppy, Kioko would have a playmate.
