Beloved Spirit

Melody: “Wandering Spirit” by Kerry Livgren/AD (See http://numavox.com/ )

Words arranged by Anonymous

It was too late when I heard last night;
Barely awake, but I couldn’t drive.
Drifting away, but with hope for a better next day.
May it be okay.

Early, and willing to rise;
Fear in my heart, but hope in my eyes.
Could he be safe? Sometimes they are resilient, it’s said;
I...hope he’s not dead.

My heart is breaking; my eyes fill with tears,
For my beloved feline is gone.
How much I love him he’ll hear nevermore,
For his beloved spirit has flown.

“Crawl space” is right; he’s way over there.
Slowly I creep; I creep, for I care.
Already stiff. At this angle, his dead eyes don’t glow.
Oh, why did he go?

My heart is breaking; my eyes fill with tears,
For my beloved feline is gone.
How much I love him he’ll hear nevermore,
For his beloved spirit has flown.

Now a silent voice. Do the dogs rejoice?
Now we crawl outside where the hope had also died.

I should be used to the drill at this point,
But each pet takes a little bit more;
His spirit’s flown and our good times are gone,
And he’ll engage in mischief no more.
