male kitten neutering what's the best age

by LP

I have two siamese cats. A female of 1 year 5 months old spayed and a male kitten 5 months old. My vet said to leave him until he is 8 or 9 months old before I have him neutered. I was a bit shocked this seems a bit old to me. They are both indoor cats and the male has not bothered the female sexually at all. My vet said that if you neutered a male cat to soon they keep the kitten look and won't get the grown cat look. I have never heard of this before. What age do male siamese come in to season.

I had my male Siamese kitten fixed at 3 months old and he seems fine. I did it cuz I saw signs that he might already be spraying and I wanted to put a stop to it.

I dont agree with above comment, cants can be fixed after 5-9 weeks. even if u buy a cat from pro breeder, mostly they already had them fixed. 3 months age is minimum they sell at.

also u should fixe/spay/neutered them before or at 6 month age. coz after that they get matured n try to sneak out for partner, & try to spray on territory.

Hi there,

Cats should not be neutered or spayed before 6 months, after that it is ok.

Kind regards,

Beatrice from Co. Wicklow in Ireland.
