I totally agree w/ Beatrice
by: Andria

Beatrice is right. The tone of your voice saying its ok and petting him, reassuring him will help. It sounds like he needs lots of love and reassurance. Also has he been around kids before??? He may need some tome adjusting but reaaurance is the key here. . .that and patience mixed with lots of gentle love.
Alot of cats are skittish by nature. Thats where the word "scaredy cat" came from. Just give him time Im sure he will come around, please dont give up on him.

Nervous Kitten
by: Beatrice Aird

HI there,

I wonder what kind of background poor little tabby has had if he is so afraid of humans. Was he in a pound or did you get him in a rescue centre.? It sounds as if he may have been mis-treated and he is still frightened. Although he now has a loving home and he trusts you, any noise or the doorbell going might mean the arrival of different humans to him, i.e. those he doesn't trust or know. I don't know what you can do. It would be a terrible shame to send him back, as he will just go from pillar to post and never settle. Is there one of your children who could really bond with him and take care of him and protect him as with time he will gain trust and be less frightened. He is only 7 months and so is still very young and impressionable. He needs lots of love and re-assurance.Try stroking him and using the word "Its OK" when there is a change. My Burmese disappeared for 10 days a few years ago, we think that he was taken, but he turned up again frail and very frightened. I used to cuddle him and keep telling him that it would be ok and he got to know this expression "Its OK" and anytime he would be frightened I ust used it and it seemed to work. The other thing you could do is to use Rescue Remedy, this can have a calming effect on cats.

Hope this helps.
