Just a couple questions...

by Corrine
(Racine, WI, USA)

My darling Carly :)

My darling Carly :)

I had 2 siamese cats growing up, and recently adopted Carly, a seal point. She is a very unique cat, and will bite her food in half, and spit the other half out. I was just wondering if this is just a unique trait, or if I should get her mouth rechecked? Everything seems fine, she eats 2-3 cups of food a day, so I'm not too worried, its just kinda odd. Also, she tends to hide all of her toys in the couch and bite us (not hard--more like playful) when we get close to it...is this because in the wild cats would do similar things or does she just enjoy hiding them?

Now onto the problem that I'm starting to worry about. Money is kind of tight right now, so I'm hoping this is nothing too serious, but once in a while, she will start wheezing and moving her head side to side...it sounds as if shes trying to cough up a hairball, but doesn't cough up anything. It is normally over in a matter of seconds, but I was just wondering if maybe she just can't cough the hairballs up, or if it is something worse.

Thanks for all you help!

My Siamese hisses at my Persian kitten.

by Jel
(Philippines)

My 7 month old Siamese cat is so angry with my 2 month old Persian kitten. I bought the Persian to keep my Siamese company but I don't think my Siamese likes him very much. :( Is this normal? Should I give it a couple weeks or so? Also my Siamese hisses at me whenever the Persian is near me. I'm thinking she can smell the Persian scent on me.
What should I do?

Vampire Cat

by Meredith
(Anchorage, Alaska, USA)

I have a young Siamese kitten, though she'll be a year old soon. She wakes me in the morning by walking around my head in circles and meowing. I don't mind THAT, but what I have a question about is why she bites my neck??

She like gives me love bites on my neck and holds there until I push her off! I've nicknamed her the Vampire Cat...

Distraught Siamese?

by Kathy
(Michigan)

I have a male Siamese, Simon who lost his sister almost three months ago. He yowl's all day long and wants attention all of the time. (he was very vocal before, but not this bad)I tried introducing him to another adult cat and he attacked her. He really wasn't very nice to his sister either, but they did cuddle together and play once in a while. I work from home so I can give him lots of attention, but he still seems unhappy or bored. He loves stroller rides but the snow will be coming soon. I thought about getting a new kitten, but don't know if it would help or hurt. Any suggestions?

Problems with Soft Paws/clawing

by Natasha
(The Boonies)

Hi everyone!

I adopted my 4 year old Applehead Siamese, Lily, about two months ago. She's been an absolute dream. Affectionate, playful, friendly with everyone, and oh so communicative.

She was not declawed when I adopted her, and I have no intentions of putting her through that. She doesn't really scratch destructively. She just stretches and digs her claws into the furniture, picks at the carpet, my new bedspread, etc. I've provided her with scratching posts, which she happily uses, but that doesn't keep her from stretching and digging into the sofa, chair, carpet, etc.

I decided to go the route of Soft Paws, which are little plastic sheaths (vet developed and totally safe) that fit over her claws. Trimming her claws and applying the Soft Paws was no problem, it's getting her to KEEP them on that's the problem!

Everything I had read about the product before ordering said that cats generally tolerate them well and don't even realize they're wearing them. I have a few friends who have tried the product as well, and they said that getting them on was the problem, and once they were on, the cats pretty much forgot they were there.

Not Lily! She immediately starts licking and grooming them after I apply them, which is to be expected I guess.. but then she starts trying to yank them off with her teeth!(With great precision, might I add.) I try to hold her in my lap and give the adhesive time to dry so she can't yank them off so easily, but nothing seems to work. I put ten on her, she gets on my lap two hours later, and six are gone. By the next day I find the rest of them randomly laying in the floor all over my apartment, lol.

Any suggestions on how to get her to NOT yank them off? I've tried distracting her when I catch her in the act, but that doesn't stop her for long. I'm not really wanting to use the citrus sprays on areas I don't want her, because I don't want her to find the scent offensive and then start peeing on it.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone! :)

Worried about Losing Grieving Girl Siamese

by mary hirsch
(Boston, MA, USA)

Sir Anthony and Mary

Sir Anthony and Mary

My beloved Siamese, Sir Anthony, almost 19, went to Cat Heaven last week - just having made his 10th life. His sister, Christina is inconsolate and I am very worried. They had been inseparable, sharing not only their mother's womb but often looked like one cat with 2 heads; that's how close they were. While she's eating a bit, she cries a lot, sometimes all night and looks for him constantly. She has that far away look that absolutely breaks what's left of my own heart. WHAT CAN I DO?

Do Siamese cats 'chitter'?

by Gillian
(Birmingham, UK)

I have 2 rescue kittens and one I think is part siamese. He is black/grey tabby stripes but has the shape and build of a siamese cat. He also 'chitters' all day long talking to us. He does not meow like a normal cat would. We have had cats for nearly 50 years and have never had one that 'talks' like he does.

Sleeping

by Whitney
(Chicago)

I recently adopted a brother and sister named Romeo and Juliet. They are wonderful, five year old Siamese beauties. I love them and an excited to have them in my life. The little girl is very good about sleeping at night and be respectful if she is awake. Romeo on the other hand does not want to sleep at night. I usually play with them before through out the evening, but they get tired and stop playing. I feed them before bed at night hoping eating will give a full tummy and they will want to sleep for awhile. Romeo is very vocal, which is fine but the minute I fall asleep he is in my face meowing and wanting to wake me up. I pet him and try to get him to calm down but each time I fall back asleep he does it again. I don't know what to do but I do know I need a few more hours of sleep each night. I know cats are cats and Siamese are very much night prowlers. I am so happy to have them in my life but am wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what I can do. Any advice would be great.

Brother and Sister

by Cat mom
(South Boston, MA, USA)

Aren't we pretty?

Aren't we pretty?

I took in a brother and sister at 10 weeks and they are 6 months old. They don't seem to have warmed up any to humans. They are always together. I don't know how long it will take before they will like being held? Also, they do not talk back like another siamese I have had. Any advice? Do you think they will be like this forever?

Siamese boy won't stop meowing!

by Steve
(England)

Hi There,

We've just homed a lovely 7 month old Siamese.

We did a lot of research before getting one, and I understand they are talkative, and we saw him some time before taking him home, but since he has been here he walks around the house meowing very loudly continuously.

I'm assuming as we have only had him a few days it will take some time for him to settle in, he is also unneutered but is booked in this Thursday to have his opp.

I just wondered if this is normal behavior when one is re-homed. We have two other cats as well, he doesn't meow around them, he just either sleeps or walks all around the house constantly meowing when awake. He gets lots of affection (he is a little love machine) and always has clean litter, kibble to graze on in the day and lots of toys.

He purrs pretty much all of the time too and is even purring when meowing!

Thanks,

Newbie Siamese owner, some questions plz

by ADi

Hello everybody,

Introducing, my 4 month old (as told me) Siamese cat male, named Sammy.

Can anyone help me describe:
1) Weather it is pure Siamese cat?
2) What point color is this Siamese.
3) Is he really 4 month old or elder?
4) I placed the litter box, outside my room at balcony,
is it possible the cat run out on some others house
n don't return home?
5) At what age should have neutered him? What if i don't,
how long can it be safer? u know---!
6) When should i get him to vet for shots? what kind
of shots?, and what about regular check-up routine?
7) He don't sleep away from me, sleeps on my chest, or on
my blanket, but not where i want him to. What u
suggest how should i make him to sleep in his bed not
mine.
8) He licks my ears, sniffs my face n get close to my
nose n lips, its kind of ticklish n annoying, is this
natural? what should i do?
9) Can i get sick or something from point 8.
10)I saw on channel that a cat scratched a women on
chest, n she got hook-worms in her chest, could this
type of stuff happen? how should i prevent/care?

I just brought him home 5 days ago. The points r quite light though He seems a seal point to me. If it is, will the points get dark black? the tail is like light brownish or muddy. The pics r quite brighter bcoz of camera flash n quality, but the cat is not that whitish/fawn that much,.
and the eyes r whitish blue, just a bit blue not like navy blue, but in cam the eyes looks dark blue. In these pics the eye color is bcoz of flash. or lens flair. (cam reduce-red-eye-flash is making it glow like fire/sun/red).

I really appreciate all the ppl around here sharing such informative stuff n joyful moments, and i am very much pleased to find such a friendly forum, hope my big list wont bother much :)
plz guide me with information, this is my first pet as 4 cat. thank u for helping, hope to get positive response.

Regrads
