Simese cat tearing up my house

I have a 3 year old male seal point simese that we adopted from the shelter. We have had him about 3 months. He has torn up my boxspring, he had chewed up headphones, he jumps all over my furniture at night, he has chewed up any kind of paper he can find, he bites and claws my feet all night, he scratchs on my boxspring even after i spray him with water. He has dug up my plants. What can i do about this behavior?

Two cats are better than one

I agree another cat might make a big difference. Ragdolls are so adorable. I once had a Himalayan cat, another close relative to a Siamese. She was pretty laid back though.

Taming the Siamese

Well, we know why he was at a shelter. But that only means the previous owner didn't know how to handle a Siamese with his energy level. We have three and I wouldn't have any furture left if I didn't have a good scratching post. They do it for excerise, frustration, excess energy, etc. This bad boy is awesome!

I had a hell on wheels Ragdoll cat (they are a Siamese breed) and it turned out all he needed was a kitty friend. Our Sammy was also a lot like yours and he calmed down a lot when we got a kitten. I hope you find the key to coping with your high-energy Kitty.

Siamese tearing up house

Wow, you really do have a cat full of mischief. I do not think changes occur quickly. I have a multicat home, and when I brought in DeAndra, my lynx point Siamese, she turned my house upside down, especially in relation to the other cats. It took six months before things settle down. I will offer you some suggestions...

First, I assume he is neutered right? Since you got him from a shelter?

I know people always suggest things, and I know that sometimes, people can't always afford stuff.

I have five cats, Its sort of a constant battle keeping them from shredding the couch, my bed is already pretty torn up. I moved into this house about 3 months ago, and it's a nice house, and my landlord did not like the idea of me having cats, and he still does not know I have five.

So I go through extra precautions to keep them from tearing things up. They seem to go for the door frames, and that is not a good thing.

So, I brought a new cat tree. It's in my bedroom. That is where most of them go at night. They have been very good at using the new cat tree.

Cats do not like citrus smells. I wanted the strongest air freshener I could find. Its called OdoBan REAL Citrus. I spray it on the door frames, and the couches, or anywhere they want to scratch. It does work, but I have to spray it every few days, or they will start scratching that particular surface again.

You can try "Feliway". It's a cat pheromone that has a calming effect, it works wonders! It sounds like your kitty is full of energy and anxiety, so this might really help. You can find it at any pet store, but its cheapest at Amazon. It comes as a plugin, and last about a month.

Also know, is that no matter what, he will scratch. They must flex their nails to help remove dead layers from their nails, and its also a part of their behavior to leave their scent in places. So you will not stop him from scratching, but you can focus him on other things to scratch instead.

I hope this helps, let me know how things go...
